Mart Museum

More than 9,000 works of art including paintings, drawings, etchings and sculptures represent the prized heritage of the Mart Museum that documents in particular the Italian Futurism movement.

One of the more significant sectors of the exhibition’s tour is the new headquarters encompassing the works of Fortunato Depero, together with works by other futuristic exponents such as Balla, Carrá Severini and Prampolini..

The Italian Nineteen Hundreds era is represented by works of significant value such as the Giovanardi collection that embraces master works by Campigli, Licini, Sironi, Carrça, de Pisis and an exceptional nucleus of 21 paintings by Morandi.

Aside from statements by some of the central characters of the period between the two wars, such as Chirico, Severini, Savinio as well as from the Roman School from Mafai, some abstract and informal paintings have been preserved, ranging from Melotti to Fontana, from Burri to Vedova, that together with the lyrical abstractism of Licini, account for some of the more significant artistic experiences of the second post-war period.

The international sphere is, on the other hand, represented by artists such as Nauman, Rainer, Nitsche, Kiefer, Long, Cragg, Gursky, Beuys and by young newcomers.  In recent years works of art from the seventies and eighties have been acquired, from Merz to Kournellis, from Boetti to Pistoletto, from Pascali to Paladino.  Finally, and of great interest, there is the chapter encompassing the contemporary movement.  The Panza de Biurmo collection plays a significant role thanks to works by American artists from the Eighties and Nineties.

The Palazzo delle Albere hosts a selection from the Eighties.  The Museo Depero at Rovereto, once fully refurbished, will inaugurate a new section exhibiting objects from the Casa de Arte Futuristia (Futurist Arts House).
